Southeast Motors uses the 4A91PLUS engine. The 4A9 series engines were developed in collaboration between Mitsubishi and Daimler, featuring variable valve timing technology. They come in four displacement variants: 1.1L, 1.3L, 1.5L, and 1.6L. Southeast Motors' vehicle lineup includes the DX7, DX3, V3 Lingyue, Lingshuai, and Xiwang. The Southeast DX7 measures 4570mm in length, 1905mm in width, and 1720mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2700mm. It is powered by a 1.5T turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering a maximum power output of 145kW and a peak torque of 285Nm.
Back when I drove the Soueast V3 Lingyue, I noticed it used the Mitsubishi 4A91 engine – a real classic that veteran Soueast owners all recognize. Later models like the DX7 SUV adopted the Mitsubishi 4G63T 1.8T turbocharged engine, which delivered strong power but had relatively high fuel consumption. In recent years, newer models have started using the Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi 1.5T engine, like the DX5 which comes equipped with it, offering mature technology and affordable parts. As for drawbacks, early Mitsubishi engines were a bit noisy during cold starts, but they performed steadily at highway speeds. Nowadays, Soueast has also introduced vehicles with the Blue Core 1.5TGDI engine, reportedly achieving 40% thermal efficiency and saving about 1L/100km in city driving compared to older models.
