What does Volkswagen's AOFF mean?

Volkswagen's AOFF is the button to turn off the automatic start-stop function. How the automatic start-stop function works: By installing an enhanced motor with idle start-stop function on a traditional engine, the engine is completely shut off when the car meets the conditions for idle parking. When the vehicle needs to start moving again, the idle start-stop motor system quickly responds to the driver's start command and rapidly starts the engine, achieving instantaneous connection, thereby greatly reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The role of the automatic start-stop function: It can reduce exhaust emissions and save fuel. For cars equipped with the automatic start-stop function, when waiting at a traffic light, as long as the battery has sufficient charge and the engine coolant reaches the normal temperature, the system will shut off the engine. If the battery charge is insufficient, the automatic start-stop system will not work.
I've been driving a Volkswagen for several years, and the first time I saw that A Off button, I was completely confused. I had to look it up online to find out it was for turning off the auto start-stop function. That thing always shuts off the engine at red lights—supposedly to save fuel and be eco-friendly—but the loud rumble when it restarts is annoying, and sometimes it delays acceleration. I usually press A Off as soon as I get in the car, just for peace and quiet. Occasionally using it is fine, but in big cities with frequent traffic jams, the constant stopping and starting is torture. After turning it off, the car runs much smoother, and there are fewer minor issues like fast battery drain. Once you get used to it, it's actually quite convenient.
