The small button on the left side of the gear shift in the Sylphy is the gear shift lock. Since the gears of automatic transmission models are arranged in a straight line from front to back, to avoid misoperation or accidental contact with the gear lever during driving, which could lead to incorrect gear operations and damage the transmission, a lock button is installed on the gear lever. To change gears, you must first press this button before the gear lever can be moved forward or backward. It is also called the gear release button. The automatic gear lock is designed to prevent engaging gears that should not be engaged while driving. When in position P or N, the selector lever locking mechanism prevents accidental engagement of a driving gear and thus the unintended movement of the vehicle. To release the selector lever locking mechanism, with the ignition switch on, press and hold the brake pedal while pressing the lock button on the selector lever. If it is the small recessed button at the top left corner of the panel at the very bottom of the gear lever, labeled "hold," hold means to lock. Simply put, pressing this button allows gear shifting when the car is turned off.
