RST on car navigation stands for the reset button, which can restore the navigation system to factory settings. The RST button is usually located on the front panel of the navigation device as a small pinhole. When the device is powered on, use a toothpick to press it. After hearing a sound, restart the navigation system to complete the factory reset. The car GPS navigation system consists of two parts: one part includes the GPS receiver and display device installed in the car, and the other part is the computer control center. These two parts communicate via positioning satellites. Car navigation uses onboard GPS combined with electronic maps to conveniently and accurately guide drivers to their destinations via the shortest or fastest routes, making it a great assistant for drivers.

As a long-haul truck driver who's on the road all day, I've seen plenty of RST prompts on car navigation systems. This thing either means route recalculation—like when you suddenly take a wrong turn and the system is working hard to figure out a new route—or it's the system acting up and needing a manual reset. My old truck's navigation would always show RST when going through tunnels, and I later found out it was because the GPS antenna connector was loose. I'd suggest first checking if the shark-fin antenna on the roof is covered in bird droppings, as metallic window tints can also block signals. If it keeps acting up after a reset, you're better off getting the manufacturer to flash the firmware rather than messing around with it yourself.

When I first got my electric car, the RST prompt on the center screen gave me a scare. Later I learned it's the system automatically triggering reset protection. There are mainly three scenarios: Route Reset appears when navigation freezes, pressing the Reset button forces a reboot during system crashes, and Safety Reset restores safety settings after collisions. EVs like Teslas are more sensitive - even heavy bumps can trigger it. I remember frequent RST prompts before the last OTA update, which disappeared post-upgrade. Now when I see this prompt, I turn off the car and smoke a cigarette first, waiting for the infotainment system to fully sleep before restarting - works every time.
