R gear is the reverse gear. When using this gear, the vehicle must come to a complete stop before engaging it. It is strictly prohibited to shift from a forward gear into reverse while the vehicle is in motion to prevent gear damage. How to use the R gear: For models equipped with an automatic transmission, first press the brake pedal and then press the safety button on the gear lever or push down the gear selector to engage or disengage the R gear. The R gear can be engaged from P (Park) or N (Neutral), but switching between D (Drive) and R requires passing through N gear. In other words, to shift from D to R, you must first shift to N, which helps reduce the impact of reverse oil flow in the transmission during gear changes. For models with a manual transmission, first bring the vehicle to a complete stop, then press the clutch and brake, shift into R gear, and finally perform a semi-clutch operation with slight throttle input. The function of the R gear: Its primary function is to enable the vehicle to move in the opposite direction, allowing it to reverse. In manual transmission vehicles, it also serves as a hill-hold function. When parking on a downhill slope, the drive shaft can be mechanically locked by engaging the reverse gear. However, this should not be overly relied upon, as the vehicle's braking system is the primary method for stopping. Using reverse gear for braking carries certain risks.
