What does the L gear in Accord mean?
1 Answers
Accord's L gear refers to the low-speed gear in a car. The L gear is a gear position found only in automatic transmission vehicles. Generally, automatic transmission cars have six gear positions, arranged from top to bottom as: P, R, N, D, S, L. Under normal circumstances, the parking gear P, reverse gear R, neutral gear N, and drive gear D can fully meet the needs of general driving. However, in some special driving environments, the S and L gears can be utilized. When going downhill or descending a long slope, shifting to the L gear restricts the car's gear to automatically stay in the lowest gear, allowing the car to use engine power for braking during descent. This prevents the driver from having to press the brake for extended periods, which could overheat the brake pads and pose a danger.
