What does 'start' on a car mean?

Start on a car refers to the one-touch start (also known as keyless ignition system). The one-touch start device is part of a smart car's system, serving as a button mechanism that simplifies the ignition process while also allowing for engine shutdown. This device can be retrofitted either at the original key lock position or as an independent panel. The smart key, commonly referred to as the key with serrations or grooves, serves as a backup to prevent malfunction of the one-touch start feature by allowing mechanical ignition when needed. Vehicles equipped with one-touch start typically do not require inserting a key, though they still retain a key insertion slot.
When I first got my driver's license, I was also quite confused about the start button. It actually means starting the engine. You need to press the brake pedal, shift to P (Park) gear, and then press the button to start the car. Don't panic - indicator lights will show the status. If nothing happens, it might be because the brake isn't fully pressed or the key isn't nearby. When I was first learning to drive, I kept pressing the button without stepping on the brake, and the car wouldn't start properly - it was pretty embarrassing. Remember to first confirm the car is in Park gear before pressing the button; when you hear the engine sound, it means success. This is much more convenient than traditional key ignition where you had to turn the key several times. After successful startup, the dashboard lights will display normally, indicating the car is ready to drive. In short, you'll get familiar with it after a few practices - don't overcomplicate it. Remember the sequence: brake, Park gear, press button. Safety first - always ensure the car is on level ground before starting to avoid accidents.
