What does SCR mean?

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is a treatment process for NOx in diesel vehicle exhaust emissions. It involves injecting a reducing agent, ammonia or urea, in the presence of a catalyst to reduce NOx in the exhaust into N2 and H2O. When the SCR light in a truck comes on, it indicates a fault in the Selective Catalytic Reduction system. There are many faults that can cause the SCR light to illuminate, the most critical being sensor damage, loose sensor connectors, short circuits, and related wiring harness issues. The SCR light coming on can lead to a decrease in engine power. If not addressed promptly, in severe cases, it can even cause the urea pump to burn out. When the SCR light comes on in a diesel engine, the driver cannot handle it alone and must take the vehicle to a repair shop for professional inspection and repair. Since there are many potential causes for the SCR light to come on, a professional needs to conduct a thorough inspection to identify the exact issue and resolve it effectively.
