What does OBD in cars mean?

Automotive OBD refers to the On-Board Diagnostics system, which monitors the operating conditions of the engine to continuously check whether the vehicle's emissions exceed the standard. If they do, the system will immediately issue a warning. Location of the OBD interface: The position of the OBD interface varies depending on the vehicle model. For most models, including General Motors, Volkswagen, Ford, and Citroën, the OBD interface is located at the lower left corner of the steering wheel. For imported Lexus models, the OBD interface is positioned at the lower right corner of the steering wheel. How automotive OBD works: When a fault occurs in a certain system of the vehicle, the malfunction indicator lamp or the check engine warning light will illuminate. Simultaneously, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) quickly stores the fault information in the memory. Through a specific program, the fault codes can be read from the PCM. Based on the fault codes, automotive technicians can accurately determine the nature and location of the vehicle's fault, enabling more efficient repairs and ensuring vehicle safety and driving security.
