What does Magotan B8 mean?

Magotan B8 actually represents the eighth-generation model of the Magotan. The Volkswagen Magotan originated from the Volkswagen Passat B6 and is the first B-segment sedan produced and sold by FAW-Volkswagen. Starting from the B6, FAW-Volkswagen introduced it to the domestic market, and since then, Volkswagen's new B-segment sedans have been produced by FAW-Volkswagen. Therefore, the domestic market currently has three generations of Magotan models: B6, B7, and B8. The new Magotan adopts the MQB platform, from which most of Volkswagen's future models will be based. Compared to the older PQ46 platform, its body strength is higher, resulting in improved crash safety. At the same time, the vehicle weight is reduced by nearly 170 pounds, effectively lowering fuel consumption, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing handling performance.
I've always been fascinated by the history of Volkswagen models. For instance, the Magotan B8 is essentially the eighth-generation version of the Volkswagen Passat series in China. Volkswagen produces the Magotan (迈腾) in China through FAW-Volkswagen, similar to the Passat in North America or other regions, but with optimized designs for the local market. In the B8 codename, the 'B' represents the generational designation of the Passat series, and the number '8' indicates it's the eighth-generation model, evolving gradually from the early B1 generation to the current B8. Around 2015 when the B8 was launched, it introduced a completely new design language, such as a more streamlined exterior and a modernized cabin layout, placing greater emphasis on comfort and safety compared to the B7 generation. In the Chinese automotive market, the Magotan has always been popular, often used for family or business travel. The generational numbering helps us quickly identify the model year and configuration level. I still remember the chassis upgrades and fuel-saving performance emphasized during the B8's launch, reflecting the automaker's continuous adaptation to the market.
