What does it mean when the EPB light is on?

EPB light on may indicate a fault in the electronic parking brake. Common causes of electronic parking brake failure are as follows: 1. There is a leak in the intake system, causing the engine control unit to detect the issue and illuminate the EPB warning light. When the EPB light is on, a decoder can be used for fault diagnosis and troubleshooting. 2. There may be actual problems with components or wiring in the engine's electronic throttle system. 3. Engine oil must be strictly filled according to standards; excessive oil will affect the air-fuel mixture concentration, leading to abnormal EPB illumination. Similarly, excessively low cylinder compression pressure can also cause such a fault.
I usually drive new energy vehicles more often and have encountered the EPB light coming on several times. This light indicates a status change in the electronic parking brake system. Normally, it lights up when the parking brake is engaged and turns off when released. However, if the yellow light suddenly comes on while driving, it should be taken seriously. It could be due to the parking brake button being stuck and not returning to position, moisture affecting the sensor circuit, or brake pad wear triggering a protection mechanism. Last time, I encountered this situation while driving in the rain. I immediately pulled over, pressed the parking brake button a few times, and restarted the vehicle to resolve the issue. It's recommended to perform a simple check first. If the problem persists, it's best to visit a 4S shop within 24 hours to read the fault codes, especially since it involves braking safety. Delaying repairs could potentially damage electronic components.
