What does 'engine' mean in a car?

Engine in a car refers to the motor, commonly known as the engine. Many modern vehicles are equipped with an automatic start-stop system for the engine. The system determines whether to shut down the idling engine based on the vehicle's usage and automatically restarts it when needed. The engine is the core component of a motor, hence it's often used interchangeably with the term 'motor'. The main part of the engine is the cylinder, which serves as the power source of the entire vehicle. The cylinder includes the cylinder block, intake port, fuel injection port, exhaust port, piston, and spark plug (for gasoline engines). The cylinder injects gasoline and air through the intake and fuel injection ports, thoroughly mixing them inside. When the spark plug ignites the mixture, it combusts violently, pushing the piston downward to generate power. Simultaneously, the immense pressure from the combustion pushes open the one-way valve's exhaust port to expel the waste gases.
