Engine displacement refers to the volume of air/fuel mixture an engine can draw in during one complete engine cycle. Generally, a larger displacement means the engine can release more energy (converting chemical energy from fuel into mechanical energy) per unit of time. There is a certain relationship between a car's displacement and fuel consumption. Typically, a larger engine displacement leads to higher fuel consumption, but this is not a strictly proportional relationship. In many cases, a vehicle's fuel consumption is also influenced by factors such as the car's weight, the engine's manufacturing quality, and onboard electronic hardware. Therefore, judging fuel consumption solely based on displacement is not rigorous. The size of a car's displacement often affects its top speed, acceleration capability, and climbing ability. In the vast majority of cases, a larger displacement results in higher values for these parameters. Additionally, engine displacement is related to a car's stability, handling, and braking performance because, during vehicle design, the structural configuration varies according to the engine displacement. Choosing a car's displacement requires balancing various factors. Both large-displacement and small-displacement vehicles have their own advantages and disadvantages. According to current common standards: cars with 1.0L or below are classified as micro cars, 1.0-1.6L as compact cars, 1.6-2.5L as mid-size cars, and above 2.5L as full-size cars. Vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines are often marked with a "T" after the displacement for distinction.
