What Does Displacement Mean?

Displacement is a specialized term in hydraulic transmission, referring to the volume of fluid inhaled or discharged per stroke or cycle. Generally speaking, the larger the displacement, the higher the technical requirements for the engine and the greater the output power. In simpler terms, cars with higher power tend to be faster (for cars of the same weight), and within the same series of vehicles, larger displacement usually corresponds to higher configurations. Engine displacement is one of the important structural parameters of a car, and it represents the size of the engine more accurately than bore diameter and the number of cylinders. Many indicators of the engine are related to displacement. Typically, a larger displacement means the engine releases more energy (converting chemical energy from fuel into mechanical energy) per unit time, resulting in better dynamic performance.
