What does cornering light mean?

Cornering light refers to the vehicle's lighting that illuminates in the direction of a turn when the car is turning. Typically, the fog light on the turning side is activated, and in high-end vehicles, the headlights may also pivot. A cornering light is a separate set of bulbs (some vehicles use fog lights as cornering lights) that illuminates when the driver turns the steering wheel, helping to light up the blind spots in the curve during driving. Once the steering wheel is straightened, the single-side cornering light turns off. Generally, cornering lights are in the form of independent bulbs and are placed inside the headlight housing. Compared to adaptive headlights, cornering lights are more cost-effective but less effective in illuminating blind spots.
What does cornering light mean? I've been driving for over ten years. Simply put, when you turn the steering wheel, the light automatically turns on and illuminates the direction you're turning. This feature is particularly useful, especially at night or in dimly lit areas like mountainous regions or roads with many curves. It helps illuminate corners, allowing you to see sidewalks, shoulders, or other obstacles, reducing the risk of crossing lines or accidents. Many modern cars, such as Volkswagen or Nissan, are equipped with it, installed on the side of the front of the car, automatically working by sensing the steering angle. I've found it quite convenient in my daily driving, eliminating the need to manually turn the lights on and off, while also enhancing safety. In terms of maintenance, just regularly check the bulbs and sensors, and it's not too expensive.
