Compulsory vehicle insurance, also known as Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicles (CTALI), is the first mandatory insurance system implemented by national law. The Regulations on Compulsory Traffic Accident Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicles stipulate that CTALI is a compulsory liability insurance where the insurance company compensates for personal injuries, deaths, and property losses (excluding the vehicle's occupants and the insured) caused by road traffic accidents involving the insured motor vehicle, within the liability limits. All owners or managers of motor vehicles driving on roads within China must purchase CTALI, and uninsured vehicles are not allowed on the road.
