Car mileage, also known as kilometers driven, refers to the distance a vehicle has traveled. The vehicle mileage is related to the specific kilometers driven by the vehicle and serves as a reference data for vehicle maintenance as well as for the sale of used cars. The speedometer is equipped with both a total mileage counter and a trip mileage counter. The total mileage counter records the cumulative distance the car has traveled, while the trip mileage counter records the distance traveled on a single trip. The trip mileage counter can be reset to zero at any time. The total mileage represents all the distance the vehicle has traveled since it left the factory and generally cannot be altered by the owner; specialized equipment is required to modify it. Mechanical odometers obtain their speed signal from the rear end of the transmission output shaft. The method involves the transmission output shaft driving an odometer gear that rotates synchronously with the output shaft. This gear then drives a flexible cable, the other end of which is connected to the odometer. According to a preset ratio, it drives the odometer counting gear to rotate, thereby calculating the car's mileage data. Electronic odometers feature a display screen where the parameters shown are controlled by the vehicle's onboard computer. The speed sensor transmits the wheel rotation speed signal to the onboard computer, which calculates a value based on pre-stored programs and displays it on the dashboard, continuously updating as the car moves.
