What does BMW xDrive mean?

BMW xDrive refers to the all-wheel drive system. The xDrive system continuously changes the torque distribution according to road conditions, transmitting the required torque to the front and rear wheels. In the default state, the front-to-rear torque distribution is 40:60, with the maximum front-to-rear torque distribution ratio ranging from 0:100 to 100:0. The xDrive system also constantly exchanges information with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, allowing it to detect wheel slippage from the very beginning, and torque distribution can be completed within 0.1 seconds. Currently, the BMW X1, X3, and X5 series all feature the same xDrive system. For example, the BMW X5 is the brand's first four-wheel-drive SUV model, with a wheelbase of 2933mm, a top speed of 250 km/h, front-engine four-wheel drive, and a displacement of 2.9 liters.
BMW xDrive is their signature all-wheel-drive system, which I think is like giving the car a smart partner. It automatically monitors which wheel needs power and then distributes torque to ensure you don't slip on wet or off-road surfaces. This system has been continuously upgraded from older models to the latest ones, using electronic sensors and clutches for ultra-fast response. During everyday driving, especially in rain or snow, it works silently to enhance safety and handling. I've experienced driving an xDrive-equipped car on a rainy highway—it felt incredibly stable, with almost no traction issues. Maintenance is also straightforward, requiring just regular checks on tires and the chassis, making it hassle-free. The downside? Slightly higher fuel consumption, but the safety and comfort are worth it.
