What does automotive PCV mean?

It stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation system. Its main function is to direct gases from the crankcase into the intake manifold through the PCV valve, thereby preventing emission deterioration and other issues. It prevents oil vapors from directly entering the atmosphere and also prevents oil deterioration. Nowadays, PCV has become a standard feature in automobiles. Advantages of automotive PCV: 1. Prevents lubricating oil deterioration: During engine operation, not all of the air-fuel mixture is completely burned. Some of it leaks into the crankcase along with exhaust gases. If the mixture remains mixed with the oil for a long time, it can reduce the oil's cooling effectiveness and increase corrosion on engine components. 2. Reduces pressure and temperature to prevent overheating: Gasoline vapors entering the crankcase increase the pressure and temperature inside, which can cause oil to leak from seals. Ventilation helps cool the oil and prevent leaks. 3. Recycles combustible gases: This benefits fuel economy and reduces emission pollution.

Last time at the repair shop, I heard the mechanic talking about the PCV valve. It's essentially a valve on the engine that controls crankcase emissions, acting like the engine's 'respiratory system.' When the engine runs, it produces exhaust gases, and the PCV valve is responsible for sucking these gases back into the intake manifold to be burned off, which is both eco-friendly and saves a bit of fuel. If this valve gets clogged, the car starts acting up: oil leaks around the oil cap, idle speed fluctuates, and in severe cases, the check engine light comes on. My neighbor's old Toyota had this issue—when they took it apart, it was full of black sludge. After replacing the valve, the fuel consumption dropped by 0.5 liters.

How to Charge a Dead Car Battery by Yourself?

Methods to charge a dead car battery: 1. Battery Jump Start Method: When the car battery is dead and the engine cannot start, you can use the battery jump start method to charge it. Battery jump starting involves connecting another car's battery to the dead battery. After transferring power, the engine can be started, and then the internal alternator will charge the battery while the engine is running. 2. Using a Battery Charger: You can also use a battery charger to charge the battery. Typically, a household car battery has a capacity of around 60Ah, and the required charging current is one-tenth of the battery capacity, which is 6A. Charging at this current usually takes about 3-5 hours to fully charge. If using a lower current, it may take around 10 hours to fully charge. Precautions: When charging the battery at home, it's important to control the charging time. Most people charge overnight, with an average charging time of about 8 hours. If the charging current is high, the battery can be fully charged quickly. Continuing to charge after it's full can lead to overcharging, causing the battery to lose water, overheat, and potentially burn out. Poor-quality batteries may even explode, so extra caution is needed.
