What does APS mean in a car?

APS in a car refers to the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor, which is a device that controls the engine throttle and fuel injection pump output. It regulates the engine speed: pressing the accelerator pedal increases the engine speed, while releasing it decreases the engine speed. The working principle of the car APS is as follows: when the driver presses the accelerator pedal, the APS generates a corresponding voltage signal and sends it to the throttle control unit, which then controls the throttle's opening and closing states. If the car's accelerator pedal position sensor fails, the engine will remain in an idle state, and pressing the accelerator will not result in acceleration. The engine speed will stay between 2000 and 3000 RPM, leading to excessive fuel consumption and potential long-term engine damage.
