What does AOFF mean in a car?

AOFF in a car refers to the Auto Start-Stop switch, which controls the engine's automatic start-stop function. The Auto Start-Stop system automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a temporary stop during driving and restarts it when it's time to move forward again. When this function is enabled, simply pressing the brake pedal while driving will cause the engine to automatically shut off after the vehicle comes to a complete stop for about two seconds. The engine remains off as long as the brake pedal is held down. Releasing the brake or turning the steering wheel will immediately restart the engine, allowing the car to be driven by pressing the accelerator pedal.
That A OFF button in the car is literally a lifesaver for me. A OFF means the auto start-stop is deactivated. While the start-stop function saves fuel by shutting off the engine when the car stops, I often find it annoying during traffic jams or at red lights - the constant engine restarting causes vibrations and affects AC cooling. So I habitually press A OFF to disable it, making my drive smoother and quieter. Though auto start-stop was designed for environmental benefits, the repeated restarts put strain on the starter motor and battery, potentially increasing maintenance costs long-term. I regularly check my battery voltage to ensure system health. New car owners might want to try turning this feature off during rush hour - it significantly improves comfort and extends component lifespan. Driving should be enjoyable, don't let minor issues bother you.
