Automatic transmission AM refers to the manual mode. Advantages of automatic transmission: Simple operation and convenient use, easier driving, higher comfort level, better safety coefficient, and more beginner-friendly for new drivers. Advantages of manual transmission: Compared with automatic transmission, it can bring more control pleasure to driving enthusiasts; higher transmission efficiency than automatic transmission, more fuel-efficient than hydraulic automatic transmission under the same engine displacement conditions; simpler structure, cheaper maintenance costs than automatic transmission, and better durability than automatic transmission; relatively mature technology with lower manufacturing costs; higher reliability.
I've been driving heavy-duty trucks for over 30 years, so I'm quite familiar with AM automatic transmissions. AM stands for Automated Manual. To put it simply, it's essentially a manual transmission at its core, but with a computer controlling the clutch and gear shifts for you. This means you don't have to worry about operating the clutch or shifting gears while driving—just focus on the accelerator and brake pedals. It's a lifesaver on long highway hauls. Back when I drove manual transmissions, my legs would ache terribly, but now it's much more comfortable. Fuel efficiency is another solid advantage—AM transmissions are more fuel-efficient than pure automatics, making them particularly suitable for large truck fleets and saving a lot on operating costs. Of course, there can be occasional minor jerks, especially during low-speed turns, but newer models have improved significantly in this regard. Don't forget to check the transmission fluid and system updates during routine maintenance.
