What Does A5B5 Grade Engine Oil Mean?
1 Answers
A5B5 grade engine oil belongs to the highest grade of mainline lubricants, primarily designed for high-performance gasoline engines and light-duty diesel engines that use low-viscosity oil. It not only provides excellent cooling and lubrication but also stands out in terms of environmental performance. The A5B5 standard for engine oil is one of the certifications from the European Union. 'A' represents gasoline engines for passenger cars, 'B' represents diesel engines for passenger cars, and the number indicates the oil grade. In terms of the correspondence between ACEA and API standards, A5B5 oil is equivalent to the SL grade in the API quality classification. Currently, A5B5 oils include brands like Shell Helix Ultra, Motul 8100, and JINJIXING, among others. Engine oils are categorized by grade into the AB series: for gasoline and light-duty diesel engines; the C series: for catalyst-compatible engines; and the E series: for heavy-duty diesel engines. Methods for selecting engine oil: Choose engine oil based on the engine's requirements. Do not use high-grade oil in lower-performance engines or low-grade oil in high-performance engines; select oil that matches the engine. Opt for multi-grade oil, which offers advantages such as fuel efficiency, long service life, and high efficiency, providing better protection for the engine. Select oil with different viscosities based on the engine's operating conditions. If the engine is in good condition and the seasonal temperature is low, use oil with lower viscosity. If the engine is severely worn and the seasonal temperature is high, choose oil with higher viscosity.
