What Does a Flashing Engine Malfunction Light Mean?

Engine malfunction light flashing could indicate a fault in one of the engine's components. The engine malfunction warning light is triggered by the ECU (Engine Control Unit), which controls all electronic devices in the engine, such as the electronic throttle, fuel injectors, alternator, fuel pump, etc. When any of these systems malfunction, the engine warning light will illuminate. When a vehicle experiences a malfunction, it generates a series of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). After reading these codes, the vehicle's onboard computer will display the corresponding indicator light on the dashboard. If the engine malfunction light flashes on the dashboard, it alerts you to an issue with the engine. The engine malfunction signal is emitted by the ECU, which oversees all electronic components of the engine. A flashing engine light suggests a potential fault in a specific part of the engine, indicating an abnormal condition. There are three possible scenarios when the engine malfunction light flashes: 1. The warning light is on, but the vehicle drives normally. This may simply indicate a sensor malfunction. In this case, you can continue driving temporarily, but it's advisable to drive at low to medium speeds cautiously. 2. The engine malfunction light is on, and the vehicle can still be driven, but exhibits severe shaking, lack of power during acceleration, or similar symptoms. This situation requires immediate roadside assistance. 3. The vehicle fails to start. This could be due to a faulty fuel pump or ignition components, requiring emergency towing services.
