What does 1.5t mean?

t stands for turbocharged engine, and 1.5 represents the engine displacement. A 1.5t engine is essentially a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine equipped with a turbocharger to enhance the engine's output power and torque. Some vehicles with turbocharged engines may specifically display these numbers on the rear hatch. Regarding the conversion of turbocharged engine displacement, there is currently no exact calculation standard, as many factors influence the displacement, such as vehicle model differences and manufacturer settings. However, generally speaking, the power of a turbocharged engine can mostly reach the level of a naturally aspirated engine with about 1.3-1.5 times its displacement. Therefore, a 1.5t engine is roughly equivalent to a 2.0L displacement. In China, the classification of passenger cars is determined by engine displacement. Mini cars have a displacement of ≤1.0L; compact cars fall within the range of 1.0-1.6L; midsize cars range from 1.6-2.5L; executive cars have a displacement between 2.5-4.0L; and luxury cars have a displacement greater than 4.0L.
