What Do the Numbers on a Tire Mean?
1 Answers
Tire numbers represent the tire's width, aspect ratio, type, and applicable rim size. Taking the 225/60/R17 model as an example: 225 indicates the tire's section width is 225mm; 60 is the aspect ratio, meaning the tire's sidewall height is 60% of the section width; R stands for radial tire; 17 means the tire fits a 17-inch rim. Radial tires have steel belts in the tread area, allowing them to withstand higher internal pressure stress, with characteristics such as less tread deformation, better road grip, and stability, making them more suitable for high-speed driving. Most modern passenger cars use radial tires.
