What Do the Gears in a Manual Transmission Mean?
1 Answers
Manual transmission gears are divided into forward gears and reverse gear. Among them, gears 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are forward gears, which are used when the vehicle is moving forward normally. Gear 1 is used for starting, though some may use gear 2. Gears 1 and 2 provide strong power but lower speed, while gears 3, 4, and 5 are progressively higher gears for increased speed. The reverse gear is used when the vehicle is moving backward. Starting method for manual transmission: When starting the vehicle, first press the clutch, engage gear 1, slowly release the clutch until the car slightly vibrates, then gently press the accelerator to prevent stalling, and fully release the clutch. After the vehicle starts, press the accelerator to increase speed. The same applies when shifting to gear 2: press the clutch, engage gear 2, slowly release the clutch, and then press the accelerator to increase speed.
