What Causes Water Dripping from a Car's Exhaust Pipe?
1 Answers
Car exhaust pipes drip water because the three-way catalytic converter liquefies pollutant particles in the exhaust gas, preventing them from being directly released into the air, thereby reducing pollution emissions. This phenomenon is common in gasoline-powered vehicles and is particularly noticeable in winter, which is normal. However, if excessive water is discharged from the exhaust pipe, it indicates an abnormal condition. Excessive water inside the exhaust pipe can damage the oxygen sensor in the three-way catalytic converter, leading to malfunctions in the car's oil system. In severe cases, it may cause unstable idling or abnormal vehicle vibrations. If water remains trapped in the exhaust pipe for an extended period, it can also accelerate corrosion inside the exhaust pipe.
