What Causes the Sunroof Leakage in the Tiguan?

Tiguan sunroof leakage causes: 1. Clogged sunroof drainage outlets: Debris blockage prevents rainwater drainage, allowing gradual seepage into the cabin. Clean the outlets thoroughly with a towel to ensure proper water drainage to the ground. 2. Damaged sunroof seal strip: Compromised edge sealing permits rainwater ingress. This requires replacement with a new sunroof seal strip. 3. Sunroof frame gaps in the Tiguan: These allow rainwater infiltration. For vehicles under warranty, the most direct solution is replacing the sunroof frame.
Last time my Tiguan's sunroof leaked badly, and I later found out it was mainly due to clogged drainage holes. The four small holes in the roof water channel easily get blocked by leaves and mud, causing rainwater to overflow into the car. You can use a thin wire to poke down the drainage pipe or use a syringe to blow air into the holes to clear out the debris. If the leakage is severe, it's likely that the drainage pipe joint has come loose, and you'll need to remove the headliner to check. Aging or deformed sunroof seals can also cause leaks, especially in cars over six years old—the rubber seals harden and should be replaced if they make a clicking sound when closing. Avoid parking the car in direct sunlight for extended periods, and using a car cover over the sunroof can help delay aging.
