Opening the fuel tank cap and hearing a suction sound is caused by the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the fuel tank. The carbon canister in the fuel tank is designed to ventilate and balance the internal and external pressure. If there is an issue with the carbon canister, the fuel tank cap cannot release pressure, leading to an imbalance. This results in the sound when the fuel tank cap is opened.
