What Causes the Steering Wheel Noise in a Prado?
1 Answers
The reasons for steering wheel noise in a Prado are as follows: Lack of lubrication in the dust cover: If the noise is heard from below the steering wheel, check the steering column dust cover. A lack of lubrication in the dust cover can cause dry friction noise. Applying some grease inside the dust cover will eliminate this noise. Airbag clock spring interference: If the noise comes from inside the steering wheel when turning, this issue is mostly caused by interference from the airbag clock spring inside the steering wheel. Remove the steering wheel airbag clock spring and apply some grease to see if the noise persists. If it does, replace the airbag clock spring as it may already be damaged. Lack of grease in the thrust bearing: If the noise is heard from outside the car when turning the steering wheel, it might be due to a lack of grease in the shock absorber's thrust bearing. Open the hood and listen to see if the noise is coming from the shock absorber top mount position to confirm if it's from the thrust bearing. If the thrust bearing is noisy, apply some grease to it. If the noise continues after greasing, replacement is necessary.
