What Causes the Occasional Clicking Noise When the Car Air Conditioner is On?

The reasons for the occasional clicking noise when the car air conditioner is on are: 1. Damage to the car air conditioner compressor. There are many causes for air conditioner compressor failure, including lack of lubrication, worn shaft, inability to compress air normally, or air leakage. When the air conditioner compressor has issues, the car's air conditioning system will produce abnormal noises; 2. Engine noise. If the engine belt is loose or produces noise for other reasons, it can also be mistaken for air conditioner noise; 3. Damaged fan blades. If the fan blades are damaged, the fan bearings lack lubrication, or the fan blades are stuck by foreign objects, it can also cause the car air conditioner to produce a clicking noise.
My car also had this kind of abnormal noise from the air conditioning, it sounded like someone was tapping on sheet metal when driving. Last time during maintenance, I found out that the most likely cause was aging of the compressor belt. After running about sixty to seventy thousand kilometers, it might loosen and slip, causing a rattling sound every time the compressor starts. Fan blades getting small stones or leaves stuck in them can also cause this, especially noticeable when the external air circulation is on. Worn compressor bearings are another common issue; last year, a friend’s car cost over eight hundred to fix because of this. Now, every time I turn on the air conditioning, I check the air vents for any abnormal sounds. If you notice any issues, it's best to get them checked out immediately, otherwise, a sudden breakdown could really cause trouble.
