What causes the Kia K3 steering wheel to wobble left and right with abnormal noise?

The reasons for abnormal noise when the steering wheel wobbles left and right are as follows: Noise from the steering column dust cover: If the abnormal noise comes from below the steering wheel, it may be caused by the steering column dust cover. Due to insufficient lubrication of the dust cover, friction noise occurs. Solution: Apply some grease inside the dust cover. Abnormal noise from inside the steering wheel: This is usually caused by the clock spring (spiral cable) inside the steering wheel. Note: When removing the steering wheel, disconnect the airbag fuse to prevent the airbag from deploying. Solution: Remove the steering wheel and apply grease to the clock spring. Noise from the stabilizer bar: Check if the stabilizer bar bushings are loose or damaged. Loose or damaged stabilizer bar bushings can cause noise not only when turning the steering wheel but also when driving on uneven roads. Solution: If the stabilizer bar bushings are loose, shims can be added.
I'm a Kia K3 owner and recently encountered the same issue with steering wheel wobbling and strange noises—it made creaking sounds while driving, which scared me into immediately taking it to the shop for inspection. The mechanic said it might be due to wear and looseness in the steering column's universal joint bearing or aging and lack of lubrication in the tie rod end. These parts often wear out from daily bumps and vibrations. After replacing the bearing, the problem improved significantly. I suggest you don’t delay—take it to a 4S shop for a professional inspection with specialized tools. Such noises, if ignored, can range from affecting handling to causing steering failure and accidents. Regular maintenance with attention to steering system lubrication can prevent issues. If you want to check yourself, you can shake the steering column to see if there’s any play, but avoid tampering with screws to prevent damaging the airbag module.
