During a cold start, an engine speed below 2000 RPM is considered normal. This occurs because the engine coolant temperature is low at startup. To ensure proper engine operation and quickly raise the coolant temperature, the vehicle's computer controls the fuel injectors to increase fuel delivery, thereby raising the engine speed. Once the engine reaches normal operating temperature, the speed will drop to its regular level. While driving, try to avoid letting the engine speed fall below 2000 RPM: If the RPM is too low, the engine may feel underpowered. Operating at low speeds with high load can damage the engine and promote carbon buildup. Most economical engine operating range: The engine operates most efficiently between 2200 and 3500 RPM, which also represents its optimal working condition. During normal driving, it's advisable to maintain engine speed within this range.
