What causes roof leaks?

Roof leaks can occur due to the following reasons: 1. Sunroof leaks: It is important to regularly clean the sunroof to keep the drainage channels clear. Additionally, during routine car washes, use high-pressure air equipment to blow out any debris in the drainage pipes. 2. Failed car waterproof seal: Leaks often appear around the doors or trunk openings, primarily due to deteriorated, aged, or broken rubber waterproof seals. Reapplying specialized adhesive for waterproof seals can effectively prevent leaks. If water seeps in around the doors, inspect the surrounding waterproof seals for any cracks or detachment. Misaligned door seals are a common cause of water ingress, so check these first if water enters the vehicle.
I've seen too many cases of roof leaks, and they're mostly related to the sunroof. If your car has a sunroof, the aging and cracked sealing strips can let rainwater pour directly inside, or the drainage holes might be clogged with dust and leaves, causing water to leak into the car. Another possibility is rusted-through welding points on the roof or failed sealant around the windshield, both of which can lead to leaks. I recommend checking the sunroof first—test it with water and try cleaning the drainage pipes. If it still leaks, take it to a professional shop to inspect the roof structure to avoid damaging the interior and compromising driving safety. If you're doing it yourself, replacing the sealing strips isn't hard, but don't force it to prevent making the problem worse.
