What Causes Gear Shift Jerkiness?
1 Answers
When a car experiences jerkiness during gear shifts, it is usually due to the following reasons: 1. The transmission fluid needs to be replaced. Transmission fluid, also known as gear oil, loses its lubricating effectiveness over time if not replaced promptly, significantly increasing shift resistance. 2. Cold gear shifting. In cold temperatures, the viscosity of the transmission fluid may not reach its optimal state, resulting in poor lubrication and causing jerkiness during shifts. 3. Rusty transmission bearings. This prevents the clutch driven plate from moving smoothly, leading to poor return and difficulty in engaging gears. 4. Clutch control system malfunction. This results in insufficient clutch disengagement travel, causing incomplete clutch separation and difficulty in gear engagement. 5. Deformation of the clutch pressure plate assembly's drive plate, leading to poor separation.
