What Causes Engine Smoke?
1 Answers
Reasons for engine smoke: 1. Incomplete combustion due to small fuel injection advance angle; 2. Slight water leakage in the cylinder liner or water presence in the fuel; 3. White smoke during cold starts, which disappears as the engine warms up; 4. Air-fuel ratio imbalance, decreased cylinder pressure, premature fuel injection timing, or failure of the smoke limiter on the injection pump; 5. Malfunction in the exhaust brake system; 6. Burning engine oil; 7. Wear of engine cylinder liners, piston ring sticking, misalignment, aging or deformation of valve seals, excessive valve guide clearance; 8. Engine oil entering the cylinder through the intake tract. Automotive engines are categorized into: naturally aspirated, turbocharged, mechanically supercharged, and twin-charged.
