What Causes a Car Not to Start and How to Fix It?

Due to wear of the cylinder barrel and piston rings, the air tightness decreases, and the compression ratio fails to meet the standard; replacing the corresponding parts can solve the issue. A weak battery or insufficient starter motor speed can also prevent the car from starting. It is recommended to have it inspected at a 4S shop.
With years of experience in car repair, I've encountered many common reasons why a car won't start. For example, a dead battery could be due to leaving lights on, causing excessive discharge. Check for loose or corroded battery terminals. The solution is to jump-start the car using jumper cables or charge the battery. Another possibility is a faulty starter—if the engine makes no sound at all, the starter may need replacement or the starting circuit requires inspection. Fuel-related issues like an empty gas tank or a failed fuel pump can also prevent the car from starting. Try adding fuel and gently pressing the accelerator when attempting to start. Ignition system problems, such as worn-out spark plugs, are more likely to occur in cold weather, and replacing the spark plugs usually solves the issue. For prevention, I recommend regularly testing the battery voltage, avoiding prolonged inactivity of the car, and taking it for a high-speed drive monthly to recharge the battery. In emergencies, calling a towing service is the safest option—safety always comes first.
