What Causes a Car Generator to Overheat?

There are two main reasons for car generator overheating: 1. Mechanical failure: Mechanical issues can cause abnormal heat generation in car generators, such as increased transmission resistance, aggravated wear of bearings and shafts, which also leads to excess heat conversion from friction work during high-speed rotation. Sustained high temperatures will reduce the generator's internal resistance, age electronic circuits and mechanical components, causing abnormal operation and shortened lifespan. 2. Electronic circuit failure: These faults are divided into internal faults and downstream circuit faults. Internal faults include coil damage causing virtual short circuits or abnormal resistance increases leading to higher thermal losses. When downstream load circuits increase, the generator's output current continuously rises, raising its temperature. Avoiding simultaneous use of high-power vehicle appliances can reduce such concentrated heat generation.
