I have a lot to say about changing transmission fluid. My old Corolla has run 150,000 kilometers. Genuine Toyota fluid is definitely the best match, especially for CVT models which require low-viscosity oil. Once a repair shop recommended Shell's Spirax S6 to me, and it worked quite smoothly, but the mechanic reminded me to make sure it meets the WS standard. Manual transmission models are much simpler, just use 75W-90 gear oil. Remember not to cheap out and buy no-name brands—repairing a damaged transmission could cost you ten times the price of fluid changes. Currently, a one-liter bottle of genuine fluid costs around 100 yuan, and a full fluid change including labor is about 500 yuan.
