The transmission of the Great Wall Haval H9 is ZF's 8AT transmission. ZF is a German company, and this marks the first time ZF's 8AT transmission has been used in a domestic brand model. The Haval H9 features a stylish and bold exterior design, with a new-style grille, thick chrome trim on the grille, a redesigned front bumper, and more sporty and aggressive headlight clusters, creating a rugged and imposing visual effect. Inside, the Haval H9's dashboard has been updated from a twin-dial design to a single-piece unit, featuring a large LCD screen. Additionally, the center console has been fitted with a new electronic gear lever, and the button layout has been adjusted compared to the current model. The terrain response system knob has been moved back, integrating with the buttons for the electronic parking brake, auto hold, ECO mode, and low-range four-wheel drive.
I've been into off-roading for years and know the Haval H9's transmission inside out. The early models all used ZF's 6AT gearbox - that German engineering is rock solid, never let me down even on the terrible roads along National Highway 318. The new version got upgraded to ZF's 8AT, shifts as smooth as cutting butter, especially handy in city traffic jams. Great move by Great Wall - ZF transmissions have been used in Land Rovers and BMWs, and putting one in the H9 instantly elevated the whole vehicle's class. Last year at the Alxa Desert sand dunes, several other vehicles went into overheating protection mode, while my 8AT performed flawlessly the entire time. Though Great Wall is developing their own 9DCT now, for off-roaders I still trust established brands like ZF - after all, transmission failure is way more troublesome than a flat tire.
