The Rongfang is actually the Chinese name for the Toyota RAV4. When I worked as a guide at auto shows, I often encountered people asking about this. As one of Toyota's most iconic urban SUVs, the RAV4 was officially named 'Rongfang' back in 2016 during the third-generation facelift. This model has sold tens of millions worldwide, renowned for its reliability, durability, and versatility. When I test-drove the hybrid version a couple of years ago, I was amazed to find its fuel consumption could go as low as around 5L—the hybrid technology is truly impressive. The trunk design is quite clever too; with the second-row seats folded down, you can fit a folding bicycle inside, making it super practical for weekend camping. Oh, and the current fifth-generation model has a raised chassis for better off-road capability, paired with three 4WD modes, so it handles light off-roading with ease.

When I changed my car last year, I opted for the RAV4 Hybrid, and having driven nearly 20,000 kilometers, I feel most qualified to comment. What impressed me most about this Toyota SUV is its maintenance cost—basic servicing only costs 700 yuan, half of what my colleague pays for his German car. Although the infotainment system isn’t flashy, CarPlay connectivity is super stable, with no lag during navigation or music playback. Once during heavy rain on the highway, its TSS safety suite suddenly auto-corrected the steering wheel—I later realized it was due to hydroplaning. As for drawbacks, sound insulation is indeed average, but adding sealing strips improved it significantly. Used car dealers say this model retains about 60% of its value after five years—Toyota’s resale value is truly no exaggeration.

What designers hate the most is cookie-cutter car models, but the RAV4's exterior truly caught my eye. The new model's rugged angular design paired with a two-tone body makes it particularly eye-catching parked under office buildings. The cabin design is also quite intriguing—that diving dashboard line combined with the floating screen makes it look at least ten years younger than the previous generation. Last week when I took my team on a location scout, we managed to fit five adults plus all our equipment inside. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo depth approaches two meters. Opening the panoramic sunroof lets the dappled forest light spill directly onto the suede seats—my photography assistant immediately shot several sets of interior material references. The only downside is the somewhat thin paint—light contact with branches leaves marks.
