Genesis is the Korean luxury brand Genesis. Genesis products: The Genesis brand has currently launched three sedan models: the mid-size luxury sedan G70, the mid-to-large luxury sedan G80, and the full-size luxury sedan G90. Its products focus on rich configurations and excellent luxury feel. Genesis development: The Genesis brand will form a relatively complete SUV product lineup covering compact, mid-size, mid-to-large, and full-size market segments in the future. Meanwhile, according to the product plan released by the Genesis brand in 2016, the GV70 and GV80 models will be launched before 2020, while the GV60 model will be introduced in 2021.

I recently researched the Genesis brand, which is actually a luxury sub-brand launched by Hyundai Motor Group in 2015, specializing in premium vehicles. It's somewhat similar to the relationship between Toyota and Lexus. What I admire most is how it cleverly combines Korean aesthetics with German-style handling – just look at the streamlined body of its G80 sedan, which has a very artistic feel. The interior spares no expense either, with Nappa leather seats and real wood trim that feel top-notch to the touch. However, its brand recognition in China isn't very high yet. Last month when I spotted a GV80 SUV on the road, a friend even asked me which new electric vehicle startup made it.

Last week, I test drove the Genesis G70 and gained a new perspective on this brand. As Hyundai's luxury marque, its positioning is clear—to compete directly with Lexus. With fully imported models priced between 400,000 to 800,000 RMB, its standard rear-wheel-drive platform is quite commendable. The most impressive feature was the Ergo Motion seats with massage function, which eliminated all back fatigue during long drives. I heard they pioneered the pick-up and delivery service model, though currently their showrooms in China are only available in select cities like Shanghai and Chengdu.

Genesis is the kind of quietly successful Korean luxury brand, with its GV80 SUV recently selling like crazy in North America. The emblem features a winged shield design, and the entire lineup comes standard with cutting-edge tech like the 12.3-inch naked-eye 3D instrument cluster. I'm particularly fond of its philosophy of blending traditional luxury with futuristic elements, such as the crystal ball-shaped rotary gear shift. Power-wise, it uniformly uses the Lambda-series 3.5T engine, delivering a driving experience with the solid, refined feel of German cars.
