Vehicle emission standards refer to the regulations on the content of harmful gases emitted from automobile exhaust, such as CO (carbon monoxide), HC plus NOx (hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides), and PM (particulate matter, soot). With the increasing severity of automobile exhaust pollution, countries around the world have established corresponding regulatory systems for vehicle emissions, promoting advancements in emission control technologies through stringent regulations. To curb the generation of harmful gases from vehicles and encourage manufacturers to improve their products to reduce these emissions at the source, both Europe and the United States have formulated relevant vehicle emission standards.
