Currently, automobile accelerator pedals are divided into two types: floor-mounted accelerator pedals and suspended accelerator pedals. Floor-mounted accelerator pedal: Since the pivot point of a floor-mounted pedal is located at the bottom of the pedal, the entire foot can rest on it, with the pedal itself acting as a fulcrum. This allows the calf and ankle to control the pedal more effortlessly, thereby improving pedal control precision and reducing fatigue. Suspended accelerator pedal: With the pivot point located at the top of the bracket, the suspended accelerator pedal has a relatively simpler lower structure. This design makes the pedal lighter to operate and allows the pedal bracket to be constructed from a metal rod, significantly reducing manufacturing costs. As a result, many manufacturers prefer this type of pedal. However, compared to floor-mounted pedals, suspended accelerator pedals only provide a fulcrum for the front part of the foot, which can lead to stiffness in the calf during prolonged driving. Function of the accelerator pedal: The primary function of the accelerator pedal is to control the throttle valve's opening, thereby regulating the engine's power output. In some vehicles, the accelerator pedal is connected to the engine's throttle valve via a throttle cable or linkage, allowing the driver to directly control the throttle valve when pressing the pedal. Modern vehicles often use electronic throttle systems, where the accelerator pedal and throttle valve are no longer connected by a cable. Instead, the electronic throttle pedal is equipped with a displacement sensor. When the driver presses the pedal, the ECU collects data on the pedal's displacement and acceleration changes. Based on built-in algorithms, the ECU determines the driver's intent and sends corresponding control signals to the throttle valve's motor, thereby regulating the engine's power output.
