What are the symptoms of a faulty exhaust valve?

When the exhaust valve fails, it exhibits the following symptoms: 1. This can cause a large amount of white smoke to emit from the exhaust pipe, along with abnormal engine shaking and unstable idling. 2. It may also lead to an unusual phenomenon where the engine speed increases instead of decreasing during idling. 3. Additionally, carbon deposits can form in the combustion chamber, causing the piston rings to stick and resulting in poor sealing. 4. The failure might be due to aging, as the exhaust valve operates under high engine temperatures. Over time, it can deteriorate like the valve cover gasket or rubber seals, necessitating timely replacement.
The PCV valve in my car had failed before, and the symptoms were quite obvious. The idle was very unstable while driving, and the car would suddenly shake or stall when stopping at a red light. Fuel consumption increased significantly—previously, a full tank could last 500 kilometers, but after the failure, it dropped to 400. The exhaust emitted white smoke with a pungent burning oil smell. The car responded sluggishly during acceleration, struggling even on uphill climbs. If left unattended, the engine oil could easily become contaminated and dirty, leading to increased carbon buildup and affecting the engine's lifespan. At the time, I used a simple method to check: with the engine running, I opened the oil filler cap. If oil mist sprayed out or there was significant pressure, it was almost certain the valve was faulty. I replaced it immediately—costing just a few hundred bucks—saving myself from bigger troubles down the road.
