Symptoms of a faulty car BCM: 1. For automatic transmission models: trunk cannot open, car key cannot be removed, P gear is locked, brake lights do not illuminate, windshield washer does not work, cigarette lighter does not work; 2. For manual transmission models: trunk cannot open, parking lights do not illuminate, brake lights do not illuminate, windshield washer does not work, cigarette lighter does not work. The car BCM is located in the black box above the driver's left side. BCM refers to the body control module of the car, which regulates numerous electrical devices in the vehicle. The main functions of the body control module include electric window control, central door lock control, remote anti-theft, lighting system control, electric mirror heating control, instrument backlight control, power distribution, etc.
Last time when my car's BCM malfunctioned, it was particularly frustrating. First, the door locks started acting up - they would unlock themselves even after being properly locked, which constantly made me worry about theft. The power windows also became unresponsive, pressing the down button would make them go up instead, nearly soaking my leather seats during rainy days. The most annoying part was the headlights going haywire - they stayed on even after turning off the ignition, draining the battery twice. Later, even the remote key fob stopped working properly, requiring five or six presses before the trunk would respond. The air vents randomly switching modes became a regular occurrence. Now that it's fixed, I finally understand how many systems this BCM module actually controls.
