What are the symptoms of a bad starter motor?

If the starter motor malfunctions, the following signs may appear: 1. No response when starting the vehicle: This indicates that the starter motor is not working, and the issue could be with the power supply to the starter, or an open or short circuit inside the starter motor. 2. Dull sound and low RPM during startup: If the engine makes a dull sound and runs at a low RPM during startup, this problem is caused by an internal short circuit in the starter motor itself. Partial coil short-circuiting prevents it from generating sufficient rotational magnetic force, unable to provide the required torque for starting. 3. Motor operating sound is audible, but RPM is zero: This situation occurs when the starter motor's solenoid fails. The solenoid, a smaller cylindrical part on the starter, is responsible for pushing the starter gear into engagement with the flywheel. In this case, the starter motor keeps rotating but fails to drive the flywheel to start the vehicle. 4. Loud noise during startup: This is caused by damage to the starter motor's bearings, carbon brushes, or the surface of the starter gear, leading to operational issues. 5. Burning smell: A burning odor from the vehicle's chassis during startup indicates an internal short circuit in the starter motor, causing overheating of the starter wiring harness or coils.
