What are the steps for a beginner to refuel at a gas station?

Open the fuel tank cap. Generally, the fuel tank cap switch is located on the driver's left-side panel. Look for the switch marked with a fuel pump icon. After the attendant finishes refueling, they will remind you to proceed to the counter for payment. Following these instructions will essentially complete the refueling process.
The first time I went to refuel, I was quite nervous, worried about making mistakes and causing accidents. Before driving into the gas station, I first checked whether it was self-service or full-service, then found an available pump and parked properly, making sure the car was aligned correctly. It's absolutely essential to turn off the engine, or the heat from it could cause a fire. After that, I got out of the car and checked which side the fuel tank cap was on—there's a small arrow next to the fuel gauge on the dashboard indicating left or right. I opened the cap by twisting it by hand or using a key, being careful not to use too much force and break it. When selecting the fuel grade, I referred to the vehicle manual, which recommended either 87 or 91—modern cars usually use 87. For payment, I inserted my card into the machine for pre-authorization or paid cash to the attendant. While refueling, I pulled out the nozzle and inserted it deep into the fuel tank opening, then pressed the handle—it automatically stops when full. It's dangerous to use a phone or smoke during this process. After refueling, I returned the nozzle and tightened the fuel cap to prevent leaks. Before leaving, I double-checked the payment amount to avoid overspending. For beginners, remember that the process is simple but safety comes first—don’t hesitate to ask the gas station staff for help; they’re always happy to assist. After a few tries, it becomes routine, saving both time and stress.
