What are the requirements for vehicle annual inspection time?

There is no grace period for overdue annual inspections; even being one day late constitutes a lapse in inspection. Within 3 months of inspection lapse: If a vehicle undergoes annual inspection within 3 months of the lapse, no penalties will be imposed as long as the inspection is completed on time at the testing station. The traffic management department of the public security authorities will only issue a verbal warning. More than 3 months but less than 2 years of inspection lapse: If a vehicle's inspection lapses for more than 3 months but less than 2 years, a fine must be paid, and 3 demerit points will be deducted. More than 2 years of inspection lapse: If a vehicle has not undergone annual inspection for more than 2 years, its registration file will be canceled. Generally, the file can be restored only after paying a fine.
I've only been driving my new car for a little over a year, and after checking the regulations, I found that the annual inspection schedule mainly depends on the registration date. New cars enjoy relaxed requirements in the first few years—in China, you only need to inspect every two years for the first six years after purchase, after which annual inspections become mandatory. Don't confuse the registration date with the date of first use; make sure to go on time to avoid fines. Even if you don't drive the car during the overdue period, it could still be towed or result in penalty points. My neighbor forgot to inspect his car last year and got caught driving it to a repair shop—he was fined 200 yuan, but fortunately, the car was fine. Vehicles involved in more accidents or with modified engines may require more frequent inspections. I recommend setting a phone reminder or using government platforms to schedule inspections—it saves hassle, ensures safe driving, and prevents insurance issues.
